Kriss Worthington,  Berkeley City Council

Berkeley Council

First elected in 1996, Kriss is a 14-year veteran of the Berkeley City Council. In that time, he has steadily built a reputation as one of the region's most prominent and effective progressive leaders, making real progress on the issues that matter to the people of the East Bay, including education, housing, transportation, the environment, diversity economic development, and safety. Now serving his fourth term in office, Kriss also serves as the official City of Berkeley representative to the Alameda County Congestion Management Agency. He also serves as the alternate to the Alameda County Waste Management Authority and the Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG).[5]

Supporting Sandre Swanson

In 2006, Kriss Worthington, Councilmember, Berkeley , was one of many prominent Northern California leftists to serve on State Assembly hopeful Sandre Swanson's Honorary Campaign Committee.

2007 arrest

State Assemblymember Loni Hancock, City Councilmember Kriss Worthington and Father Stephan of St. Joseph the Worker Church were among the 38 people arrested in front of the Woodfin Suites Hotel Thursday, committing civil disobedience to show support for 12 hotel workers fired April 27, 2007.
More than 300 worker advocates rallied as 38 supporters sat in the street in front of the hotel at 5900 Shellmound St. in Emeryville, according to Brooke Anderson, organizer with the East Bay Alliance for a Sustainable Economy. The workers and their supporters have been demanding that the hotel enforce Measure C, a living wage law for Emeryville hotel workers that mandates overtime rates when workers clean more than a set amount of space

Activism
Over his lifetime of activism, Worthington has served in dozens of organizations and boards, most recently as a board member for the National Organization for Women (NOW), the NAACP, and formerly as the chair of the Northern Alameda County Group of the Sierra Club. He is also the founder of the annual Holocaust Remembrance Day in Berkeley, which is now in its seventh year.

Kriss Worthington serves on the Berkeley City Council. He also stood as a Democrat for California State Assembly. He has "spent his entire public service career standing up for progressive values, and making sure those values are transformed into action."

Background

Kriss Worthington is no stranger to overcoming huge challenges. He spent the first 11 years of his life as a foster child, moving between various foster homes, and later spent time on the streets as a homeless youth. These challenging early life experiences gave Kriss the compassion he has today for those who are less fortunate – and he's spent his time as a legislator being a voice for those who are left out with no one to speak up for them.
